*Even organisms which are not federally restricted may be pathogenic under certain circumstances. We strongly recommend that all bacteria and fungi by considered potential pathogens, and that appropriate caution be used when handling them in the laboratory. Students working with bacteria and fungi should be supervised by a knowledgeable instructor familiar with aseptic technique; bacterial and fungal cultures will be sold and shipped to institutions only. We will not be held responsible for any infections resulting from the use of our cultures.

Cultures are labeled by name of species and medium on which it is grown. Unless otherwise stated, fungi are incubated at room temperature (26° C) and can be stored in a refrigerator for several months.

Connecticut Valley Biological is dedicated to providing instructors and their students with the highest quality living organisms available anywhere.

All of our cultures are grown under highly controlled conditions here in our laboratories. Cultures are checked before shipment, timed to arrive when you need them and shipped with instructions and a pipette. Our cultures are guaranteed to arrive in good condition. (Cultures of predatory protozoa also contain the food organisms required to maintain the protozoa in transit.)

To simplify ordering we now provide our protozoan and algae cultures, and some of our invertebrate cultures, in one size only. This size contains sufficient material for a class of 30 students. To make sure you order enough material, use this guide: For up to 30 students, order 1 culture; for 31–60 students, order 2 cultures; for 61–90 students, order 3 cultures; for 91–120 students, order 4 cultures, etc.
